Biography

Hi! I’m Dr. Laura McGuigan (she/her). I currently live in Paris, France with my husband and dog, but I am originally from central New Jersey! I received my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, where I was trained to serve as an outpatient therapist in integrated healthcare and private practice settings. From 2021 to 2023, I worked at Penn State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) as a predoctoral intern and postdoctoral fellow, where I provided individual psychotherapy, group therapy, crisis services, and assessment to undergraduate and graduate students. From 2023 to 2025, I worked as a private practice psychologist at Heartwood Independent Practitioners in State College, Pennsylvania, where I provided outpatient psychotherapy to adults. In 2025, my husband obtained a postdoctoral position in Paris, France, and we began living here in November 2025 (until May 2028)! It has been life-changing and exciting to live here. Through living here, I have developed a much deeper understanding of the impacts of acculturation difficulties and language barriers.

In my personal life, my interests include yoga, strength training (I miss Pure Barre in the US!), reading novels, and playing with my dog. My personality is bubbly, warm, and empathetic. I am mindful of how my interactions and worldview are shaped by my identities (White, straight, cis-woman, neurodivergent). I deeply value creating safe, inclusive, therapeutic spaces for people with all different gender identities, racial/ethnic identities, sexual orientations, religious/spiritual affiliations, ability statuses, and other cultural identities.

My dog, Bella! She is a Belgian Malinois Mix.
